Creating a Thinking Culture in the Classroom
* Setting ground rules well in advance
* Providing well-planned activities
* Providing non-threatening activities, which allow students to be active participants
* Encourage originality in the whole range of Intelligences and Learning Styles
* Incorporate metacognition in classroom lessons where students reflecting on their own thinking
* Be vigilant in acknowledging all sorts of ‘good thinking’ such as showing initiative, creativity, **humour, imagination, observations, problem solving, drawing conclusions, planning, estimating, **predicting, guessing, justifying a personal view, questioning, game strategies, showing **consideration for others
* Modelling thinking skills
* Acknowledge thinking skills when reporting to parents. Anecdotal notes and reflective journals and **portfolios are useful
* Be aware of the Thinking Skills underlying the Victorian Essential Learning Standards when **planning activities and assessment tasks
* Use the vocabulary of Thinking every day in the classroom
